"This
internship took me completely by surprise. It is true that interns
do not learn how to take better pictures with their own cameras on
the job, but you learn all of the things you need to know to become
a professional photographer; tips and tricks of post-production, financial
practices, organization, and client interaction to name just a few.
After this experience, I feel all the more excited to work on my own
photography because I have the confidence and skills to practically
make it a career. "

Least
enjoyed: |
| "Of
course everyone enjoys the shoots the most. There was a good variety;
one day we would be shooting bands, and the next we would be shooting
executive portraits. But I also had never used Photoshop, so learning
how to retouch photos was valuable because John has the most advanced
software available to work with and gave me a great deal of hands-on
responsibility with it from day one. " |

"Since
I came during the height of E-Bay madness, the office was a challenging
maze for a month of so." |
What
I learned:
"The
biggest lesson I learned with John is that with photography, you
have to be on your toes. You have to think ahead and be ready for
anything. Flexibility and self-awareness are pretty key in order
to learn from your mistakes and be of greatest use as an assistant.
I also was encouraged by John’s confidence that any of us
interns have the ability to be a professional photographer if we
learn how to manage our money and market ourselves. "
