Katie Gaines, Senior, Gaucher College, Winter - Spring 2003.

Most enjoyed - Least enjoyed:
"Meeting senators and musicians" - "Slow office days, john's singing (and the Quiznos slogan)"

What I learned:

"Lighting techniques, general photography business practices."

(Left) - We were called by an Ohio magazine looking to have a portrait made of one of their Congressmen who had announced for the presidency. We were forced to set up in a small 5' x 8' space, with lights, etc. A softbox to camera left, a hair light clamped to a shelf above, and a hard light gelled in the back gave some depth to the scene, and Katie sat in for the lighting test to make sure it worked before the Congressmen, who only gave us 8 minutes, walked into the scene to be photographed.

(Above) On Katie's first day, we were assigned to photograph the "Nashville Star" competition for a television network, which was a contest to find the best Country-Western singer, a la "American Idol". Here we are, at the end of the shoot at the Cactus Cantina in rural Maryland as the crowd was doing a line dance. Despite repeated suggestions, Katie opted not to participate.
